The artistic community here in Stockholm is filled with amazing, inspiring women. @theresatraoredahlberg artist, filmmaker, mother of two very young kids, and working for Swedish Television on art and culture documentaries. Interesting conversations at my kitchen table. Interview to come soon! But at the moment catch her stunning exhibition at Kalmar art museum.

Daniel Svahn is a Stockholm based multidisciplinary furniture designer and interior designer and artist working with both commercial and conceptual projects. “The past 2 years I have further developed my knack and passion for material reuse, up cycling and circular systems within the creative fields I roam in. With acclaimed projects such as “The New Goodies but Oldies” , “A New Paradigm”, and just recently this ReMake project with the municipality of Stockholm, I strive and aspire to highlight the possibilities of making new things from the old. A way forward for furniture and interior designers in the new paradigm that is circular economy, responsible consumption and production.” Seen here the book/expo shelf and room divider. Got my key today from artist Isa Andersson. With a BFA from Beckmans and MFA in design from Konstfack, Isa works sculpturally, investigating social structures and the relationships between body and material and the rooms they are in. “This is not a weapon but an art object. A comment, a symbol of being a girl, a woman today. I myself have walked home in the evening with my hand in my pocket clutching hard on the keys between my fingers as we have been taught to do. The closest thing at hand should something happen. It’s not that I need to kill animals or hunt for food, but in case I’m attacked on the way home. The fear of rape. This is the way girls and women have learnt to protect ourselves in society today. Very few men know this and unfortunately many non-males are not aware either. I have chosen to create keys that can act as a weapon. At the same time I wanted to add an element of elegance and playfulness in the object. An object that I would choose. An object that I and my body will be able to trust.” Isa will be showing at @liljevalchs Spring Salon. DM artist for purchase. @is.a.girl

Denise Grünstein’s “Nymphaeas” at @cfhillofficial

Seart and Galleri Duerr started TAKEAWAY during Stockholm Design Week with over 40 contemporary artists and designers, some of whom are still at art school. A super concept offering us a chance to purchase art and design objects from emerging artists and designers at an affordable price and giving them a platform to show their work. Can’t tell you how much I loved this exhibition @galleriduerr. Glass artist Jo Andersson, studied glass blowing in Ohio, worked in Seattle and in 2020 graduated with a masters in craft from Konstfack Stockholm. “BEING” is a light installation which is intended to help bring individuals into the present moment. I wanted to create a safe space where viewers could lose themselves and fully experience the work as well as their responses to the work. Each light vessel is an excerpt from the light installation Being, and are made to be a tool for meditation, personal insight, and contemplation. The vessels are hand blown and their shapes are inspired by the fluidity of glass creating organic, floating forms. The vessels are then filled with water to increase their feeling of magnitude as well as intensify their interaction with the light that passes through them. The light vessels are meant to be a mirror for the viewer to lose themselves and go within, into the present moment to meet themselves.” @jo.andersson.studios @galleriduerr @seartgroup . 5 and 6 are water glasses with “I am enough” and “I am loved” etched into the bottom.

In Alvik, in the most quintessentially Swedish region of Dalecarlia, you’ll find the master potter Stefan Andersson. Pottery had been part of Andersson’s life since he was a little boy, with an uncle who was a potter and whom he would later spend 4 years studying under before attending university in Gothenburg. Using a wood fired kiln, he creates small ranges of functional tableware and also large pots, the aesthetics of which reminds me very much of Japanese pottery. Stefan Andersson also supplies bespoke tableware to the 3 star Michelin restaurant Frantzen in Stockholm. His book Krukmakeriet is soon to be released in English. Masayoshi Oya is a Japanese ceramic artist who lives and works in Gothenburg. After his advanced ceramic art studies in Aichi, Japan, Masayoshi had come to study in Sweden attracted by the philosophy of Capellagården. That led on to a masters degree in Craft Art from HDK Gothenburg. He combines the aesthetics of both his homeland Japan and his new home, Sweden. Treating his ceramic table wares and artworks as a canvas, he paints and splatters the glaze creating beautiful, unique pieces. All photos from @studio_oyama

A visit to one of Södermalm’s most charming studios, to meet silversmith Caroline Haskell. The house is from the 1700s, or even older. Caroline makes jewellery and beautiful small vases in silver. Coming from an academic family and having worked as a medical technician, Caroline discovered her love for the craft while she was a stay at home mum. It started with one course which led her on to many more, and finally when offered a spot in the studio by her teacher, she took it and has been there for 10 years. Her style is very Scandinavian minimalist, and her inspiration comes from nature. Caroline can be contacted through her Instagram @carolinehaskeldesign
